Faith Hill
By Nishan
Of the many female country singers in the world you are sure to have heard of Faith Hill. This amazing singer has given to us many wonderful songs. These songs which are country by genre are sung in what can be considered as Faith Hill’s signature voice which is considered to be a combination of soulful and rough velvet. From this powerful voice which is combined with her skillful band and the evocative music which comes across the guitar it should come as no surprise that Faith Hill has provided us with a score of fantastic songs to listen to.
In her career as a songstress Faith Hill has released 8 number one singles and 3 number one albums which have been well received by her many fans. From these various singles and albums which have been released you are sure to have quite a few of them. These songs include ones such as “Piece of My Heart”, “Take Me As I Am”, “Wild One” – this was her first song to hit the Billboard chart in the number 1 position – “You can’t Lose Me”, “This Kiss”, “Breathe” and many others. In addition to singing solo Hill has also joined her husband Tim McGraw who is another famous country singer in duets.
The songs which the pair has released are just as popular as the ones which Faith has sung by herself. These songs include “Shotgun Rider”, “I Need You”, “Let’s Make Love” and the very first duet the pair sang together “It’s Your Love”. As you listen to these and the other songs which have been performed by Faith Hill you will be able to understand why her fans love listening to the soul inspiring music that she sings. So if you haven’t listened to something new lately, why not try a little sampling from Faith Hill? You might find that you like her laid back style of singing.
A little bit of Country anyone?
By Nishan
Going along with the theme of much maligned music genres, I thought we might explore the realm of country music. I can already hear the steady chorus of ‘Oh NO!’s and groans issuing from just about every corner, but the fact remains that in spite of all this, country music is one of the largest genres of the music industry. And I for one enjoy some of its more mainstream tracks. For instance, today I felt a little bit country and decided to listen to some Keith Urban. I’ll be the first to admit that it’s not one of his latest offerings, but “Somebody Like You” is one of those laid back tracks that you can just groove along to without even realizing it
In truth, country music has had a bad rap, from overplayed Hollywood casting to jump-on-the-bandwagon country music bashing. But the truth is, if you listen, really listen to a good country song, you will find yourself thoughtfully agreeing with the soulful lyrics, because, as Randy Houser once put it,
“Country music is truth. Of all genres of music, country music is the one that’s not so much about the beat as it is about hittin’ you right where it hurts the most in your heart and in your gut. Sometimes it hurts and sometimes it feels good. Sometimes it makes you laugh or cry or whatever, but I think it’s the last genre of music that’s all about a man telling you what he’s been through and where he’s been. And the truth.”
And yeah, if you think about it, country music isn’t about the beat, or even the music, or a steel guitar, it’s about feelings. So forget about accents, the twang, and negative media hype, and tune in to the lyrics – because in essence that’s what country music is all about.
Or as Harlan Howard once said, country music is “Three chords and the truth”. Enough said I think.

Music Rocks My World – Does it Rock Yours?
By Nishan
Music. It can tame the soul and soothe the savage beast within you. It can move you to tears, or it can make you want to get up and dance the night away. It’s there with you through the good times…and through the bad. It floated you up onto cloud number nine when you had your first kiss, and it helped you back down to earth when your heart was broken. It’s a language without barriers – and the one thing in this world that everyone understands. Music helps to make your world a better one.
Whether you find yourself singing along at the top of your lungs completely oblivious to the fact that you are in fact quite, quite off-key; or whether you find yourself singing in the shower as you lather up, using the shower-head as an impromptu mike, you will find that music is a large part of your life.
Personally speaking, I find that music helps me to do many things, from slaving away on my computer, to cooking a virtuoso meal (a PB&J sandwich!), to taking a lazy drive down the highway with the sound of the 80’s filling my soul.
I’m not an ardent fan of any one particular genre or type of music. I find my likes and dislikes spread over a wide variety of genres, and what I listen to depends on my mood at the moment. Right now I’m listening to the quirky yet eminently listenable “Rotterdam (or Anywhere)” by The Beautiful South.
So what type of music are you into?
- Soft Rock
- Hard Rock
- Rhythm and Blues (R&B)
- Jazz
- Classical
- Country
- House
- Hip-Hop
- Rap
The list as you can see is endless, but if you regularly tune in to my Music Sack blog, you will find yourself entertained and enlightened by the different aspects of music I take a look at, including what makes some of these genres so popular.
Music. It’s all around you. What makes you rock?
